Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Pritam Dasgupta, also known as Srijay, the 26-year-old son of BJP leader Dilip Ghosh’s wife Rinku Majumdar from her first marriage, was found dead in his New Town apartment on Tuesday. He was an IT professional. He was discovered unconscious and taken to a local hospital in Bidhannagar, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later sent to RG Kar Medical College for postmortem examination.
The preliminary postmortem report indicated that the probable cause of death was acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, meaning there may have been severe internal bleeding in the pancreas. Doctors also found that his heart, liver, and kidneys were significantly enlarged. According to medical experts, such changes can be linked to long-standing high blood pressure issues.
Dilip Ghosh, who was present at the cremation at Nimtala Mahashmashan, became emotional while speaking to reporters. He said, “It is my misfortune that I never experienced the happiness of having a son; instead, I am left with the grief of losing one.” He added, “Such an incident is beyond description. We still can’t even imagine it. I still can’t understand what happened, or why.”
Ghosh further said, “His mother was cooking in the morning, and after receiving a phone call, she rushed out. And now we have ended up here. It’s heartbreaking to think how such a lively young man could leave us like this. Especially for his mother — her whole world was her son, and now he’s gone.”
Rinku Majumdar stated that her son had neurological issues a few years ago and had been on medication. She said, “I think he wasn’t taking the medicines properly in recent days. He never said anything but wanted to stay with me. I told him to wait just a few more days. He wasn’t eating properly. Sometimes the cook would come and leave, sometimes he stayed at a friend’s flat. After my marriage, he was a little upset, but never showed it openly.”
